14/05/08 - Joe takes his comedy show to fringe festival
A FORMER pupil of Alford Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School is making a name for himself in the world of comedy.
Joe Hodkin, 22, is once again heading for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival having enjoyed success there last year.
His love of acting gave him staring roles in productions at both Alford Primary School and later at the grammar school.
In September last year he was given his own radio show on LSRFM (Leeds Student Radio). The series of 60-minute pre-recorded comedy programmes were entitled Joe Levi's Short Stories - as Joe now goes by the more catchy stage name of Levi.
The show was written entirely by Joe and performed alongside other local comic actors. The show enjoyed much audience acclaim and series one ran for a total of eight episodes.
Joe said: "Performing at the Fringe was a great experience and since then I have begun to enjoy further success with my own projects.
"I've set up a permanent comedy group with some of the comedians who featured in the programme, who I met white studying acting at Bretton Hall Arts College, and we are now called The Animals of Butter Bridge. We love doing jokes and seem to be gaining attention."
They will tour with their first live show, also called Joe Levi's Short Stories, in West Yorkshire throughout June.
The group has sent a script and pilot episode of Short Stories to Radio 4 and are keeping their fingers crossed the BBC will be interested in their comedy.
They will also perform a 14-night run of Joe Levi's Short Stories at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, from August 11-24 at the Sweet Venue, Grassmarket.
