EDITOR - Your report in the Standard dated September 24, that the summer Skegness car park income has fallen by £200,000 has been attributed to the poor weather and high fuel costs by Coun Colin Davie.
The weather in 2007 was worse than 2008 so that excuse will not wash.
Doesn't he accept that the Draconian increases in car park charges plus a very low standard of maintenance of the Skegness foreshore have got anything to do with it?
Furthermore East Lindsey District Council's idea of putting a row of shops on the southern foreshore cannot be justified by his statement that higher fuel charges have prompted people to shop closer to home.
The Skegness foreshore does need revitalising but the word going round is that ELDC is not willing to discuss any possible projects with private developers for another nine months. Is there a hidden agenda?
Wouldn't it be a good idea in the present recession to reduce the car parking charges for 2009, give free parking to coaches and to reinstate change machines for the toilets etc.
