A RE-ENACTMENT of the Normandy beach landings was simulated by the Lincolnshire Military Preservation Society in Skegness.
Hundreds of people flocked to the beach near Prince's Parade car park, South Parade, for the interactive session, named Operation Overlord, which aimed to give people a better understanding of the Second World War.
Visitors came from all over Lincolnshire, and having heard about the weekend from a relative, a family travelled down from Hull to catch the society event.
Pupils from Richmond Primary School, Skegness, are studying the war in history and went along to take in the action.
Coun Gary Ellis helped organise the event and found it a huge success. He said: "It is crucial to understand and learn from history. It helped pupils to not only look at war but they could ask about it and see things from the period."
The re-enactment is planned to return on the weekend of September 19-20, 2009, and Coun Ellis hopes it will be bigger and better.
