EDITOR - Yet again the people of Lincolnshire have not been listened to, as the Post Office ignore the public and go ahead with the closure of two branches in Skegness.
I can only hope Lincolnshire County Council and its leader Coun Martin Hill can try to do something for the many elderly and disabled who use these facilities in the town.
We have to remember however that it is not the county council's responsibil
ity to start running post office services and look to why we have arrived at this point.
I have noted the support certain Labour councillors have given the campaign, in particular George Saxon, the Labour chairman in the town.
It is just a pity they did not do more to influence their government to stop cutting the services that the post offices relied on for their income.
Post offices have only become unviable because of Labour Government policy.
It is this government who have allowed the post office focus to switch from delivering services to delivering profit.
If Labour Councillors feel so strongly on the issue and since they have no ability to influence their party, they can do the only honourable thing, which will be noticed in Labour HQ, and resign from their party.
Somehow I sense that talk is cheap, and only for politics sake because of local elections in 2009. If they cannot influence their government what use are they?
