EDITOR - I would like to make a small correction to a letter appearing in the Standard, contributed by Mr A. Jenkins.

I was not a district councillor as stated, merely an employee of the district council.

While the subject of the Skegness foreshore is under review, might I raise one or two points concerning various popular activities which are no longer there.

There is a formidable list:
Weekly entertainment and firework displays on the south boating lake (health and safety legislation helped to stop this); beach events for children, such as treasure hunts, sandcastle competitions etc; weekly 'it's a knockout' competitions in the outdoor pool based on the TV show; weekly bathing beauty, glam grans, knobbly knees and junior competitions; weekly heats of the Miss British Beauty competition; weekly talent competition/search for a star.
I used to be involved in all these events, but when I moved on, no-one contributed this work and the events ceased.

Perhaps this is because I was the only Skegness person employed by the district council with a passionate interest in the town and its leisure industry.
