EDITOR - The defeat of the proposal to keep the eco town bid alive was a clarion from the voters of East Lindsey for the elected members to take tight control of the way our area is governed and managed.
The fact that members said they were not consulted until this April when the bid was made at the end of October 2007 made it clear that much is being kept from the public.
Leaders of the political groups should get to the bottom of the concerns
made by their fellow members and issue a report for the public to be reassured that there will be no more 'secrecy surrounding the process' as your report noted.
For the sake of transparency, and to bring a bit of common sense to the debate, the public should be directly represented in any future plans to develop the area in a positive way.
All credit should go to Coun Colin Davie and his colleagues who put forward the motion which halted the bid and effectively stopped the council spending a further £120,000 of public money on this piece of work.
Let this vote be a modest starting point to galvanise the local councils and ELDC to challenge and mobilise the Environment Agency and Government to consider the regeneration and long term development of this vast and beautiful county which provides so much for the food baskets of families throughout Britain.
