EDITOR - I was amazed that only 1,000 replies had been received in response to the questionnaire sent out by ELDC (reportedly 20,000), regarding the future of our town, this being a take up of only five per cent.
Since 95 per cent are not interested, it would perhaps be a good idea to just let ELDC sell off all the foreshore to private enterprise.
At least then it would be clean and tidy, not perhaps what we want, but rubbish and sand would be moved on a dai
ly basis, not annually as it appears to be done now, and there would be lots of cash available to give to other towns in the district, whose residents would be quick to say what they want.
So, people of Skegness, let us all stand up and be counted, let us tell the district council to clean the waterway, to move the sand, to keep the place clean and tidy, not tomorrow or next week, but today and every day throughout the summer season, and starting not next year but now!
The deterioration in cleaning standards happened when work moved from direct labour to contract labour, where costs were the main criteria, not cleanliness, and work is done on an 'as needed' basis.
Going on to what the town needs, I would suggest that in view of our weather situation, more indoor activities are needed.
What about a 'waterworld' containing pools, wave machines, beach, slides, etc, plus food outlets, bars, amusements and other entertainment.
This along with the harbour/marina, which I have previously advocated, would take Skegness back to its rightful place as one of the country's top resorts. This could all be situated south of the clock tower.
