Tuesday, 4.12pm - INSPIRATIONAL mum Sandi Adams, of Skegness, has received a national award in recognition of the way she coped with losing her son to cancer and the phenomenal amount of fundraising she has done in his name.
Sandi's son Nick died last August aged just 24 from kidney cancer.

During the last year of his life she, his dad Symon, sister Gemma, grandparents and friends fought to raise money to buy drugs to prolong Nick's life.

The whole town pulled together in support of the cause. But the campaign did not die with Nick as his family have now launched the Nick's Room Appeal to raise £50,000 to dedicate a room to Nick and equip it for young people at the new Butterfly Hospice in Boston.

Despite going through every parents' nightmare, Sandi has remained positive and determined, and it was for this strength she was awarded the award by her bosses at New Look fashion company for which she is a manager.

She said: "It was a bit of a shock. It's a new thing our company has just launched for anyone who has struggled in adversity and got successfully through it.

"I got it as achievement for my charity work and surviving the death of Nick.

"It's a beautiful award. It was really quite emotional but I managed not to cry."

Sandi was nominated by two of her bosses as well as her staff in Skegness, and she was selected out of nominees from the whole country.

The award was presented by former Atomic Kitten popstar Liz McClarnon and Sandi received a standing ovation.

There was more good news for Sandi as her daughter went into labour the same day with her son, named Nick Adams in memory of his uncle, and she was promoted to area manager.
