Taxi fares to rise up to 30 per cent

Tuesday, 1.46pm - TAXI fares are set to rise by up to 30 per cent in East Lindsey following a review of the fare structure.
The Skegness Taxi Owners' Association and taxi firms from the Louth and Skegness area asked East Lindsey District Council to review the fares in light of rocketing fuel costs.
The general licensing committee accepted fuel had significantly increased since the current fare structure was set last July.
It was agreed tariff one, between 7am-11.30pm, would begin at £2.60, an increase of 13 per cent on the current basic fee of £2.30.
Tariff two, between 11.30pm-7am, would be increased by 50 per cent of tariff one. This amounts to a 30 per cent increase on the current late fare, which is £3 compared to the proposed rate of £3.90.
The taxi owners had requested a 75 per cent increase for the late fare but this was refused.
The decision will be subject to statutory advertising and provided there is no public objection.
