Published Date: 08 October 2008
Monday, 9.22am - LAST week the Standard published a plea for information about an old photograph taken in the centre of Spilsby.
Allan Nelson of Grover, North Carolina, contacted our website (www.skegnessstandard.co.uk) for help in identifying the men in this family photo.

Mr Nelson explained his father, Roy Nelson, is the man on the far left and Harry Marsh from West Keal Road, Old Bolingbroke, has been in touch to unveil the mystery men.

He said they were, from left, Roy Nelson, Mr Wilson, Geoff Lawie, former Mayor Jim Woolie, Guy Ellerby, Ken Mansey, Burt Clarke and Ray Knowles.

Mr Marsh said the group would have been on its way to support Spilsby Town and the men always took their bells with them.

He played football for Spilsby Town and was good friends with Mr Mansey and Roy Nelson.

Mr Marsh believes the picture was taken in 1947/48.

Lynne Jones from West Keal, daughter of Jim Woolie, also got in touch about the picture.

She said the man in the back row, left, is her uncle, Derek Rolph, and her father is standing next to him.

She believes Geoff Lawie is second from left in the front row, Ken Mansey is beside him in a dark jacket and the man wearing a tie is called Ray.

Mr Lawie confirmed he was in the picture and said the girl on the far right of the picture could be Ella Matthews.
