Tuesday, 12.58pm - A YOUNG couple were assaulted as they walked back from a pub in Chapel St Leonards in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The couple, both 19, from Derbyshire were near the entrance of the Griftville caravan site in Trunch Lane, on their way back for the Neptune pub, at about 12.50am when two men ran up behind them.

The man and the woman were punched, and the man was kicked as he lay on the floor.

The men stole the woman's handbag before fleeing towards the beach.

The young man, who was knocked unconcious, was taken to Skegness Hospital with concussion and swelling to the face. The woman's face was also treated for swelling.

Police are appealing for sightings of the robbers in the area or possibly in the Neptune pub on Monday evening.

They are described as both being around 19 or 20 years old, one with a goatee beard wearing a brown beanie hat and the second wearing a blue hoodie.
