THE game started with a very positive attitude from Skegness who immediately challenged the opposition, not being fazed by the well-constructed play and quick and tactful passing.

This determination allowed for many attacks from Skegness, which resulted in their only two short corners of the half. This gave veteran Pauline Forman a chance to demonstrate one of her accurate and powerful shots for which she is known, but her shot was parried away.

Minutes later, Pelicans were also awarded a short corner, where a hard shot on goal was hit away from the goal line by player of the match, veteran Lara Potts.

At half time, Skegness were incredibly pleased with the maintained 0-0 score and definitely felt it could be their first win or draw of the season.

With this idea in mind, Skegness came back on to the pitch and began to battle even harder, dominating the first 10 minutes of the half.

The first Pelicans goal came with just 15 minutes remaining, when a short corner caused the ball to be passed around between three attackers, the third of which struck the ball and scored.

Skegness were certainly not disheartened by this goal and were even more hopeful to level the score. Unfortunately, this was not to be the case as the Pelicans managed to make a fast break after a Skegness short corner, where a first shot was saved by goalkeeper Vicky Thurston, and a second was flicked into the goal.

Although beginning to tire, Skegness had still not given up but the Pelicans scored again, this time outnumbering the defence and placing the ball out of the reach of the goalkeeper.

Unfortunately for Skegness, the score was certainly not representative of the game, and the last goal came seconds before the final whistle was blown when the Pelicans attackers gained the advantage after a poor 16-yard Skegness hit out.

Team: Lisa Cumberworth, Lara Potts, Jill Robson, Vicky Thurston, Kater Tyler, Emma Shelbourn, Amy Rutter, Keely Blakey, Olivia Stephenson, Abbi Emerson, Debbie Skipworth, Pauline Forman.
